Ferrovial Will Build Phase 2 of the Alcalá Data Center for Nabiax, the Largest Campus in Spain
  • The new building will open in 2021, with up to 23 MW of power
  • The construction project will cost €30 million and create more than 500 new jobs in Madrid and the Henares Corridor

Through its subsidiary Ferrovial Construction, Ferrovial will build phase 2 of Nabiax‘s Alcalá Data Center (ADC) campus. This campus will be the largest in Spain, with over 100 MW of power. It will be powered by its own electrical substation, which will ensure a direct interconnection to the cloud.

The expansion of the Alcalá Data Center, called ADC2, will entail a total investment of €40 million. It will have up to 23 MW of power and house 15,100 m2 of technical infrastructure. The project will create more than 500 jobs in the city of Madrid and the Henares Corridor.

The contract includes the construction of a two-story building to house technical rooms, service areas, storage areas, access control, and loading docks.

On the other hand, the IT rooms will house high-tech data processing equipment, which will be backed by technical facilities located in two adjacent courtyards at the far ends of the block.

Sustainable Data Center

The current building on campus has 24,700 m2, 7 IT rooms, and up to 33 MW of power; it was also built by Ferrovial. This project was designed under the high standards of reliability set by the Uptime Institute for obtaining TIER IV Gold certification. This designation confirms that a center offers the highest possible security and redundancy, and this project is the first in Spain to obtain this certification. It also has Leed Gold certification, awarded by the Green Building Council. Its design and construction followed the strictest sustainability criteria, including significant reductions in water consumption, energy, and CO2 emissions compared to traditional Data Centers.

Ferrovial’s experience in designing and building this sort of facility goes back to 2010 when they built over 11,000 m2 of Data Processing Centers. Reliability, efficiency, modularity, and flexibility are the four essential pillars for implementing these projects.
