Press releases

Amey, the UK subsidiary of Ferrovial Services, has been selected by Sheffield City Council as preferred bidder to maintain the city's infrastructure. The contract is worth over 2 billion pounds sterling (2.425 billion euro). Sheffield City Council (England) has announced that Ferrovial Services, through subsidiary Amey, has been selected as preferred bidder for a contract to maintain the city's infrastructure in a project worth 2 billion pounds (2.425 billion euro) in revenues. The contract includes a 5-year program of upgrades to the city's infrastructure, followed by maintenance for 25 years. The Ferrovial Services subsidiary will take responsibility for improving and maintaining 1,900 km of road, 68,000 streetlights, 500 traffic signals, 600 bridges and other structures, 2,400 retaining walls and 35,000 highway trees across the city. "This decision reaffirms our leading position in the UK and our model based on cost optimization through integrated management of services and a long-term commitment to the city," said Santiago Olivares, CEO of Ferrovial Services. "Both Sheffield and Birmingham are two clear examples, on a global scale, of efficiency, innovation and service to citizens." The city of Sheffield will not just benefit from improved road networks. The contract will also create 170 jobs, including over 30 for apprentices and graduates. Up to 500 Sheffield City Council staff will be transferred to Amey once the contract starts. Amey will also be seeking local Sheffield businesses as their preferred supply chain partners. Amey is currently in charge of maintaining roads and other infrastructure in Birmingham under a 25-year PFI contract worth 2.7 billion pounds (close to 3.1 billion euro). Ferrovial Services is firmly established as one of Europe's leading operators. Despite the difficult economic situation, Ferrovial Services had a very positive year in 2011, experiencing strong organic growth, with 2.8 billion euro in revenues. UK subsidiary Amey, which focuses on infrastructure maintenance and facility management, reported 1.283 billion euro in revenues in 2011. Ferrovial Services estimates that by integrating the main services that are currently outsourced, a city of 100,000 people can save an average of 15-20%. Santiago Olivares: "We developed the processes and methodology based on our experience with public and private sector client relations and quality indicators, allowing for the establishment of remuneration criteria, penalties and also levels of improvement."
