AGS Airports launches new sustainable security bags
  • The technology involved in these items ensures they will begin to degrade over 17 to 24 months of a bag’s lifespan
  • Thanks to this initiative, AGS will remove over two million single-use plastic bags each year

AGS Airports has become the first airport group in the UK to trial a new Oxo-Biodegradable 100ml security bag, removing over two million single-use plastic bags each year across the group.

Passengers will have access to these bags free of charge in the security areas at Aberdeen, Glasgow and Southampton airports.

The technology involved in these items ensures they will begin to degrade over a selected period of time (17 to 24 months of a bag’s lifespan) down to a natural bio-mass rather than the more damaging micro-plastics associated with single-use alternatives. Each bag can also be reused and recycled prior to the beginning of the degrading period.

The implementation of Oxo-Biodegradable security bags is the group’s latest sustainable initiative to help reduce its carbon footprint. AGS Airports has joined over 200 airports across Europe in the commitment to achieveing net zero neutrality by signing ACI Europe’s NetZero 2050 pledge. Moreover, at a UK level, AGS is a signatory to Sustainable Aviation’s decarbonisation roadmap which is the first national net zero aviation commitment anywhere across the world.
