Cintra’s Transform 66 awarded Best Transportation Project at the 2017 P3 Awards

With over 250 guests in attendance at 2017’s P3 awards in Washington D.C, Cintra took top prize in the Best Transportation Project for its Transform 66 P3 project in Northern Virginia.

A panel of 80 judges adjudicated more than 60 projects in 11 categories for September 26th’s event at the Mayflower Hotel. Along with the six other shortlisted entries, Cintra pipped projects from Colombia, Canada and Jamaica, among others, to the top prize.

“We are thrilled that the I-66 project was recognized by the industry as the Best Transportation Project for 2017,” said Belen Marcos, United States president of Cintra. “We’re excited to be a part of the largest P3 project in Virginia and look forward to bringing congestion relief to the northern Virginia region.”

What is The Transform 66 P3 project?

The project aims to improve capacity, mobility, and give more predictable travel times on the 22 mile long Interstate 66 corridor. The $3 billion project is a public-private partnership between the Commonwealth of Virginia and I-66 Express Mobility Partners, which includes equity members Cintra and Meridiam, and lead contractors Ferrovial Agroman US Corp. and Allan Myers VA, Inc.

Upon its completion the project will provide upgrades that include three regular lanes in each direction, two express lanes in each direction (with a state of the art open road e-toll system), a new and expanded transit service and park and ride lots, interchange improvements to enhance safety and reduce congestion, as well as direct access between the express lanes and new or expanded commuter lots.
