Ferrovial-Agromán Internacional contracts works amounting to 4,000 million pesetas Ferrovial-Agromán Internacional (F&A) was awarded the project to extend the Nazzano Tunnel - through Rome on the Milan to Naples toll motorway. The contract amounts to 3,300 million pesetas and the works that will be carried out over the next 26 months consist of conversion to four lanes in the existing tunnel, with two parallel twin arms 300 m. long. The project includes an innovative construction project, applied for the first time in Italy, using a mobile metal shield that will allow execution of the tunnels without interrupting the motorway traffic. The second project Ferrovial-Agromán Internacional will begin in the coming months, for an amount of 600 million pesetas, to build a dock on one of the accesses to the Port of Venice, one of the most busy in the country. Both the works are included in the improvement investment policy the Italian government has designed for the countrys infrastructures due to the year 2000 Jubilee. In the case of the motorway network, the investment is aimed at increasing the road network capacity, as well as improvement, from the safety point of view, of route layouts with a great number of black spots; and in port infrastructures Italy is undertaking an ambitious investment schedule to refurbish and improve the main ports in the country. Works portfolio of 165,000 million Ferrovial-Agromán Internacional is carrying out projects in Italy for a total value of 16,000 million pesetas, among which there is construction of the San Giovanni Hospital in Rome and the San Giuliano Park in Venice. That volume of contracts and the scope of the executions make it the leading foreign building company in the country. With these last awards, Ferrovial-Agromán International has raised its works portfolio to 165,000 million pesetas.
