June, 2017.- Ferrovial Airports has signed an agreement to partner with the Airports Centre of Excellence (ACoE), the first in the world in its category. Ferrovial’s subsidiary will be the only airport operator in the project and Heriot-Watt University will join as lead research partner.

The centre was created in order to identify trends in operations and technology applied to airports, develop innovative solutions and carry out research and analysis based on the Six Sigma methodology in order to improve processes. To strengthen its capability and services, ACoE will be an ACI Europe World Business Partner and a member of the Institute of Six Sigma Professional (ISSP).

The ACoE will run at full performance from summer and will have a team of 20 professionals. Throughout 2017, it will launch a series of research projects in the areas of operations, commercial, back office and technology. The centre will focus especially on optimizing the financial and operational performance of airport infrastructure and improving the passenger experience.

Stan Ahmed founder and CEO of ACoE, has highlighted: ” Airports are massive eco-systems and air travel continues to be the safest and widely growing mode of transport in the world. Excellence in areas such as operations, retail and the use of technology is becoming an increasingly relevant differentiator, and those are the challenges that we will tackle at the Airports Centre of Excellence.

Gonzalo Velasco, Portfolio Management Director at Ferrovial Airports, said: “Innovation and Excellence have always laid at the core of our operational model, and we look forward to improve our world-class value proposition through our partnership with the ACoE.”

Professor Antony from the Heriot-Watt University said “The School of Social Sciences team can bring specific and relevant research expertise on Process Excellence topics such as Lean and Six Sigma to the ACoE. Joint research proposals will lead to cutting edge solutions to achieving and sustaining operational and service excellence”.

ACoE aims to provide a unique marketplace for airports by building up a community of organisations from the airport supply chain. It is now actively growing the exclusive membership from airports, airlines, third parties and solution providers with a view to launching the full service by the end of Summer  2017. Any airport, airline or other organisation wanting to be part of the exciting new venture or needs any further information should contact acoe@airportscoe.com.
