Ferrovial Servicios Portugal has obtained the licence to market the Terra Mais organic compound. This is an organic compound obtained from treatment plant sludge. It is obtained as the result of the organic waste treatment process with composting procedures. It is used in the agriculture sector, adding nutrients to soils lacking in such nutrients. Currently, the Terra Mais compound is supplied in bulk and in large quantities, and it is used by farmers cultivating medium and large-scale crops.
The research and development process has lasted over two years. During this time, the methods and techniques have been improved, which have been decisive in achieving the final quality of the compound. In Portugal, the Terra Mais compound is stored in the Carregueira Ecopark in the region of Chamusca, where Ferrovial Serviços has been carrying out waste management activities since 2013.
The compound has been developed in Portugal, a business area with a high potential to be applied in other countries, in particular, in regions where soils have a low organic matter content, developing a top-quality compound with a small investment. Not only does it meet the requirements of the latest environmental policies associated with the Circular Economy, but it also complements the activities of Ferrovial Serviços, adding value through the processing of organic waste, converting it into a product that will be reused as a production factor.
