Encuentro con las Naciones Unidas
Rafael del Pino, Chairman of Ferrovial, together with several companies of the country, has participated in a meeting with Ban Ki-moon, the Secretary-General of the United Nations (UN). The aim of the meeting was to bring the UN Development Agenda presented in September to the private sector and urge action. During the meeting, organised by the Spanish Network of the United Nations Global Compact and its executive committee, the Secretary General stressed that in the current scenario, private companies have a vital role to play in the success of the new Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) that will serve as a common framework for action and international cooperation on development. In addition to highlighting the role that large companies have as development leaders at local and international level, Ban Ki-moon placed emphasis on two topical issues: environmental conversation and the refugee crisis. According to Pacto Mundial Spain's press release Ban Ki-moon said "the Climate Conference in Paris in December is the first test of our ability to make progress on an issue that underlies many SDGs. We need to show the world that green business is good business." The press release also quotes his words regarding the refugee crisis where he urged Spanish businessmen to take "into account the possibility of putting companies in favor of the common good through contracting, supply chains, technology and loans and through philanthropic support." In his closing, the Secretary General recognized that he had the leadership of those present and thanked "their collaboration in this new era full of opportunities."
