London Heathrow airport logged another record in terms of passenger numbers in May: it handled over 6 million passengers, maintaining its position as the UK's top airport in terms of traffic. The airport management company, a subsidiary of Spanish company Ferrovial, announced that a total of 6.34 million passengers passed through Heathrow, 1.7% more than in May 2014. Agencia EFE reported that, in the twelve months through May 2015, a total of 73.75 million passengers passed through Heathrow, an increase of 1.1% with respect to the preceding 12-month period. John Holland-Kaye, CEO of Heathrow, told Agencia EFE that the increase in passenger numbers shows that "only by expanding Heathrow can the UK continue to be a hub of the global economy". He added, "Heathrow's expansion plan is the best possible investment for activating the economy."
