London Heathrow Terminal 2, ‘The Queen’s Terminal’, has been awarded for the first time as the Best Terminal in the World at the 2018 World Sky Awards by Skytrax, which were awarded on March 21st in Stockholm.
Passengers gave their recognition to the Queen’s Terminal through their votes, which have also distinguished Heathrow’s Terminal 5 as the fourth best terminal in the world.
The awards recognized Heathrow, which maintains its position in the Skytrax ranking as one of the ten best airports in the world, an improvement on its position from the previous year, as Best Western European Airport for the fourth year running, and also as Best Airport of the World to Go Shopping for the ninth time.
Heathrow Chief Commercial Officer Ross Baker said:
“To have two of our terminals be voted amongst the world’s top five is testament to the successful work our team has done to transform Heathrow for the better. We are tremendously pleased passengers are not only voting for us through these awards – but also with their feet – as we saw with this year’s record breaking numbers. Going forward, we will continue to invest in Heathrow to give passengers an enjoyable, reliable and affordable journey every time they travel through the airport.”
It should be noted that the terminal was built by Ferrovial Agroman and designed by a team of architects led by the Spaniard Luis Vidal. It was inaugurated on June 23rd, 2014, with the presence of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and her husband the Duke of Edinburgh.
