LBJ Express receives National AGC Award which highlights success of design-build process and community engagement

The Associated General Contractors of America (AGC) have chosen Ferrovial Agroman’s LBJ Express project as the winner of the 2016 Alliant Build America Award in the Design-Build Civil category.

The LBJ Express project is an ambitious joint venture between Webber and Ferrovial Agroman which has transformed approximately 17 miles of road way within a 5 year time period. The LBJ uses cutting edge route design and technology was completed three months ahead of schedule .The largest section of the road is 28km wide and the highway has 9 lanes in each direction.

The award was presented by president of AGC Charles L. Greco alongside representatives from Alliant Insurance Services Inc. at the AGC’s 97th annual convention which took place on the 10th of March in San Antonio, Texas.

The awards honor those AGC members who are responsible for building the USA’s most impressive construction projects across four divisions: Building, Highway and Transportation, Utility Infrastructure, and federal and heavy divisions. The jury is made up of members of the AGC who vote for outstanding players in the fields of innovation, project management, safety, client service, community relations and environmental sensitivity.

Luis Munoz, CEO of Trinity Infrastructure was quoted saying; “We are honored to receive this prestigious recognition from such a prominent national organization that understands the scope and impact of projects like the LBJ Express.” He also highlighted the complexity of this particular project owing to ‘its location in a dense and congested region of the fourth largest metropolitan area in the country.’

 The LBJ Express also received the “AGC in the Community” award, in recognition of the project’s outstanding corporate social responsibility programs. They formed a partnership with the National Math and Science Initiative, which focuses on increasing access to STEM courses (science, technology, engineering and mathematics courses ) as well as improving students’ performance in these areas.
