Mercamadrid awards Ferrovial Servicios the 1,300 million-peseta contract for cleaning and waste collection
Ferrovial Servicios (Ferroser, the company in the Ferrovial Group dedicated to management of services), was the awardee of the cleaning and waste collection concession at Mercamadrid. The 1,300 million peseta contract has a five- year concession term, that may be extended a further three.
Ferroser will manage the service on a total surface area of 175 hectares and will carry out the cleaning and collecting of waste in the fish, fruit and vegetable market, the multi-purpose hall, roadways and parking lots, the commercial zone, toilets and warehouses. The contract reinforces the presence of Ferroser in large food product commercialisation and distribution centres and furthers its similar experiences, such as the concession it manages at Mercabilbao. In fact, the experience and technical improvement determined award of a concession that, up to present, was managed by the FCC group.
More than 85,000 million in portfolio
Ferrovial Servicios holds the service concession of more than 100 municipalities – among them, Corunna, Huelva, Úbeda, Estepona, Baracaldo, Níjar, etc. – and services a population of more than one and a half million inhabitants. Ferroser, which has already begun its expansion abroad by opening a branch in Portugal, holds a portfolio of orders that exceeds 85,000 million pesetas.
Mercamadrid, with a catchment area exceeding 300 km., is the largest Foodstuff Unit in Spain and the second in Europe. Mercamadrid houses more than 600 companies and has an average traffic flow of more than 15,000 vehicles per day.
