The Gouvaes hydroelectric plant, on the Tâmega river, comprises the construction of the underground main machine hall (120 meters long, 20 meters wide and 44 meters high) to hold four 220 MW generators, the underground transformer hall (80 m long, 17 m wide, 14 m high) and also be in charge of digging five kilometers of galleries and 8 vertical shafts measuring up to 320 meters and with a diameter of 7 meters.
