With a population of 650,000, Toledo sees much of its waste headed in the direction of the Toledo Ecopark. The waste processing plant deals with 250,000 tonnes of the city’s waste annually through GESMAT, a company in which Ferrovial Services has a 60% stake. The plant focuses on recovery, composting and recycling, as opposed to disposal of the waste. With state of the art technologies in use, the Toledo Ecopark automates the selection sorting process by means of two lines, each of which has the capacity to handle 35 tonnes of waste per hour.
