Madrid, 30 April 2009. Grupo Ferrovial has today announced the appointment of Inigo Meirás as Group Managing Director.
Senor Meiras will in the near future assume the role of Chief Executive Officer. “With the aim of ensuring a seamless process of succession at the Groups first executive level, while guaranteeing the continuity and increased efficiency in the functioning of the organization, the Board of Directors has agreed to initiate a sensible period of transition, which will further strengthen our management capacity,” explained Chairman Rafael del Pino.
The new Managing Director will assume this position whilst continuing in his existing roles as CEO of Ferrovial Aeropuertos and Vice Chairman of BAA, positions he has held since May 2007. Born in Madrid in 1963, of Galician origin, Meirás is a graduate in Law from the Complutense University in Madrid, and has an MBA from the Instituto de Empresa business school. Since joining Ferrovial in 1992, he has served as Managing Director of the Autopista del Sol toll road, as well as Cintras Toll Roads Director until 2000. At this time, he was promoted to the Management Committee as CEO of Ferrovial Servicios, when this division was created. He has also served, amongst positions, as Vice Chairman of subsidiaries Swissport and Amey.
“In Ferrovial we are working to ensure that successors are always those persons best prepared. This is undoubtedly the way to secure the future of the company and, of course, this is the case with Iñigo Meirás. He has a deep knowledge of the Group, developed over several years across the various businesses of the company,” concluded Joaquin Ayuso, who has confirmed his intention to remain involved with the Group, as part of the Board of Directors, once this transition period has concluded.
