The Florida Department of Transportation District 2 awarded its Nassau and Clay asset maintenance contracts to Ferrovial Services in North America. Both seven-year contracts started on June 30.

The Clay Project includes asset maintenance of structures, facilities and approximately 115 roadway miles located in the Jacksonville, Florida metropolitan area. This service contract includes maintenance of the South Deer Pit and SR 21 Pit, Clay County primary roads, and portions of US 301, SR 21, SR 16, SR 230, SR 100 and US 17 (Fleming Island).

The Nassau Project includes asset maintenance of structures, facilities and approximately 100 center line miles of state roadway in Nassau County. This contract also includes maintenance of Callahan Maintenance Yard, US 17 and US 1, Wayside Parks, Shave Bridge Service Roads, Egan’s Creek and Jasmine Street Tide Gates. This project is unique in that Ferrovial Services is charged with the routine maintenance and proper operation of two tidal gates that limit the amount of salt water intrusion into the interior brackish bays of Amelia Island. This responsibility is critical to the well-being of the natural flora on the island, as too much salt water intrusion can deter normal plant growth and eventually kill off the plants.

Ferrovial Services, with a great presence in Florida

Ferrovial Services recently won two new highway maintenance contracts and one contract renewal in Florida. As a result, Ferrovial Services currently has contracts in seven of Florida’s eight districts, covering more than 11,000 lane kilometers, 1,000 fixed bridges and 43 bascule bridges.
