This award, granted by the “Construction Employers Federation”, started in 2000 and since then has become the most important award in the construction market in Northern Ireland.
This award provides an opportunity to acknowledge and celebrate the most remarkable successes of the construction companies in Northern Ireland, and its main objective is to promote the search for excellence together with the acknowledgement and reward of these achievements within constructions companies operating in the region.
The projects opting for the transport category are roads, bridges, railways and ports. The projects are assessed on the basis of the following parameters:
- Technical solutions to overcome the determining factors of the project.
- Considerations of user needs.
- Satisfaction and commitment of the client.
- Contribution in constructive methods and evidence of excellent quality in the final product.
- Management with the objective of meeting the set budget and time period.
- Criteria of Safety, Health and Sustainability.
- Management of how it affects the public.
The design and construction of the works fall within the PFI project “Road Service DBFO Package 2“, awarded to Amey Lagan Roads in 2007, the most important road project ever tendered in Northern Ireland. This contract includes the concession under the system of “Design, Build, Finance and Operate” of 125 kilometers of highway, of which 40 km are new construction. The concession period is 30 years.
The design and construction of the highway was awarded to the Joint Venture formed by Ferrovial Agroman (50%) and Lagan Construction (50%), a strategic partner of the construction company in Northern Ireland and the most important construction company of the region.
The award ceremony was held last Thursday, October 6th during an evening gala in the Hotel Culloden of Belfast, with over 400 people attending.
Ferrovial Agroman won the Best Major Constructor award last year in Ireland, and together with this year’s award, confirms its leadership, among both local and overseas construction companies of highways in Ireland. This activity started in 2002, and since then it has continuously developed and constructed highway projects. Ferrovial Agroman is currently carrying out the N3 Butlersbridge to Belturbet and the A8 Belfast to Larne projects in Ireland, with activities forecast to beyond 2013.
