Protecting passengers and colleagues is the number one priority at Heathrow Airport, regardless of the coronavirus outbreak. However, it is especially relevant in the current situation to guarantee a safe environment for pour passengers.
From the first moment of the pandemic, Heathrow has followed and implemented the instructions determined by Public Health England and other government agencies to manage and operate flights safely. Some of these measures include enhancing its already thorough cleaning processes; having doctors dedicated to passenger care at a special terminal area for this purpose; or providing of over 600 hand sanitiser dispenser locations and social distancing markings across the airport.
The airport will also be trialling technologies and processes which could form the basis of a Common International Standard for health screening at all global airports. The aim of the collective measures being trialled is to reduce the risk of contracting or transmitting Covid-19 while travelling. The package of measures that are under review as part of the Heathrow trials include: UV sanitation, which could be used to quickly and efficiently sanitise security trays; facial recognition thermal screening technology to accurately track body temperature; and contact-free security screening equipment to reduce person-to-person contact.
