Heathrow deploys further measures to keep UK’s front door COVID-safe

Heathrow is doing everything in its power to keep passengers safe and travelling. Hence, the airport has unveiled further measures to reduce the risk of contracting or transmitting COVID-19 at its terminal, as the country readjusts to life post-lockdown

Heathrow has implemented UV cleaning robots that use technology to kill viruses and bacteria at night efficiently. At all escalators, the handrails are continually disinfected with UV handrail technology. In other areas of the terminals, self-cleaning anti-viral wraps are being fitted to various high touch items such as security trays, lift buttons, trolley, and door handles. These wraps function by coating the surfaces with long-lasting anti-viral protection. material

Also, tcontinuously monitor the effectiveness of these new technologies and provide information to plan these projects across the airport, Heathrow has 100 colleagues to serve as hygiene-technicians.

These enhanced cleaning measures are in addition to several initiatives taken by the airport to ensure the well-being and peace of mind of passengers and staff. Some of these measures include the introduction of Perspex barriers in security areas and in some retailers, one way systems as well as touchless services available on Heathrow and airline apps. Moreover, for the first time anywhere outside the US, Apple is trialling informative alerts to passengers arriving at Heathrow, directing iOS users to the latest guidance on travelling through the airport.
