The LBJIG and NTEMP teams volunteered with Meals on Wheels in both Dallas and Tarrant Counties.
The LBJIG team volunteered by delivering hot and cold meals to people all across Dallas, and the NTEMP team spent time in the Meals on Wheel’s Tarrant County kitchen preparing meals that would eventually be delivered to parts of Tarrant area.
Each team was able to have a unique volunteer experience with the Meals on Wheels organization and got an in depth look at what it takes to keep the operation running smoothly. Many of the meals that were being prepared and delivered were for senior citizens.
According to Meals on Wheels, nearly 9 million seniors face the threat of hunger and about 6.9 million seniors live in poverty. Meals on Wheels is the only federally supported program designed specifically to meet the nutritional and social needs of seniors.
