Ferrovial engineer is the first non-national to win coveted Irish award.

Pablo del Monte from Madrid, Spain has been named the Engineers Ireland Chartered Engineer of the Year for 2008. The competition winner was chosen from over 340 engineers who applied for the Chartered Engineer title in the past year.

The event was sponsored by construction law firm Beale and Company and insurance brokers Griffiths and Armour, and its organisers awarded the prize for the work developed on the A1/N1 Newry to Dundalk Target Cost Contract.

This highway intersects the Republic and Northern Ireland, and is located between the landmark cities of Dublin and Belfast.

It highlights an important milestone for Ferrovial in Ireland, and recognizes the hard work and dedication of Pablo and his team on the M3 and A1/N1 roads. Credit should also be given to the work of the technical office in Ireland headed up by Marcos Sánchez.

The A1/N1 is the only ‘Target Cost’ contract granted so far in Ireland. A unique feature of which is a cost sharing mechanism, whereby any money spent above or below the target cost are shared between the client and contractor. This encourages both parties to work towards common budgeting goals and galvanizes team-working.
