At a ceremony held in London on 23 May, the Northern Line Extension (NLE) won the Inspiring Change Education award. This award celebrates projects that have implemented an initiative to work with schools to help address educational inequalities by encouraging young people to enhance their skills and achieve their potential. The NLE plan includes continued engagement with local schools to deliver workshops around employment skills, careers in the industry, offering work experience, and participation in and support of a pre-apprenticeship pilot programme.

This is great reinforcement for all the wonderful work the team does with young people at all stages of their education. These programmes are only possible if people volunteer their time and expertise, so thank you to everyone who has done so! A special thank you also to Mabel Garcia and Aleisha Young (pictured), from the Communications and Corporate Social Responsibility team, for designing the programme and delivering such fantastic results.

The NLE project is improving transport links in London Underground’s Northern line and is essential to support the transformation of Vauxhall, Nine Elms and Battersea in the South Bank.
