Ferrovial’s Polish subsidiary Budimex
has been honoured with the Top Builder 2018
award. One of the most renowned awards in the Polish construction industry, the jury gives the award to the highest quality products and civil engineering solutions. Budimex received the award for its work on the S7 Expressway
(Ostróda North – Ostróda South) together with the construction of the Ostróda Ring-Road.
Proposals submitted to the competition are subject to a two-stage verification process by the competition jury. Entries are assessed in terms of environmental impact
, technical parameters
, their innovative character
, and quality
. Laboratories and certifying bodies are also consulted during the process as well as the competitiveness of the solution and the warranty term. The jury for the competition is comprised of members from the ‘Builder’ editorial team, the editorial board, and the programme committee.
The 9.66 km
section of the S7 in Poland was contracted with the Olsztyn Division of the General Directorate for National Roads and Motorways, and also includes the construction of the Ostróda Ring-Road of 9.13 km, as a part of national road no. 16.
Bridges on the ring road are of particular interest due to their scale, diversity of engineering solutions, high complexity, and difficult soil conditions, as well as environmental impact limitations, quality requirements and the short completion time for such a complex project. Two of the bridges have a span of 200m or more
Bridge work on the ring-road comprised of 15 bridges
, including 6 special construction bridges and one record extradosed bridge in Europe. The record Budimex bridge, a 4-span extradosed bridge with a total length of 677 m, with a record span of 2x206 m in this category of bridges in Europe, built as a part of national road no. 16, was constructed using overhang technology.
While carrying out the completion of the contract, Budimex used its own specialized technical departments to control and verify the design process, while optimizing the technical solutions applied.
