The road is an alternative to the A-2 and will improve access to the Henares corridor from central and southern Madrid
It is Cintra´s ninth toll road concession in Spain and its eighteenth worldwide (Spain, Portugal, Ireland, Chile, Canada and the US)
Cintra is one of the world´s leading developers of transport infrastructure toll roads and car parks with 2 billion euro in committed investment
Cintra has been awarded the contract to build and operate the M-203 toll road by the Madrid regional government. The road will cost an estimated 78.5 million euro and the concession runs for 30 years, with the possibility of a one-year extension based on accident figures. Cintra plans to commence construction early in 2006 and the road could be open to traffic in the first quarter of 2008.
Improved access from the Henares corridor to central and southern Madrid
The new 12.3-kilometre road commences in the municipality of Mejorada del Campo, at the junction of the M-208 and R-3 roads. It then runs northwest to link up with the A-2 road in the municipality of Alcalá de Henares.
The future M-203 will greatly improve access from the Henares corridor to central and southern Madrid and will create an alternative transverse route to the A-2 in a very congested area, particularly the environs of Alcalá de Henares.
There will be a central tolled stretch of road, and light vehicles will pay a single toll of 1.1398 euro (July 2005 prices).
