Ferrovial Servicios was awarded a 13,000 million-peseta contract with the Almanzora-Levante Consortium, Almería.

Ferrovial Servicios (Ferroser), a company that centralises the Services Area of the Ferrovial Group, was awarded the tender called by the Almanzora-Levante Consortium in Almería, to build and operate the recycling and compost plants, as well as the waste transfer and collection plants.

The 13,000 million-peseta contract involves investment of 1,145 million in the plant construction and acquisition of collection trucks valued at 575 million pesetas. The contract award term shall be prolonged for twenty years.

The bid by Ferroser was a technical and economic improvement on that by the other seven groups tendering, among which there were Dragados, Cepsa (Aguas de Barcelona), FCC, in a temporary consortium with Abengoa, Acciona and Onix (Vivendi). In fact, the award decision was passed unanimously by the 40 Mayors in the consortium, backing the technical report on the grounds of "price, high environmental security around the facilities, high- level management project and job creation".

100,000 million service portfolio

Ferrovial carries out this activity through Ferrovial Servicios (Ferroser) in the areas of street cleaning, solid urban waste collection, water integral management, integral management services (building cleaning and maintenance, gardening, air conditioning, security, etc.) and cemetery management. Ferroser rendering other urban services, such as city and intercity transport, etc., in the near future, may accompany these activities.

In 1998, Ferroser had a turnover of nearly 12,000 million pesetas, 33.7% more than in the previous year and, with this contract, raises its service portfolio to 100,000 million pesetas. At present, Ferroser manages these services in more than 100 municipalities - among them Corunna, Huelva, Estepona, Barakaldo, Santurce, Durango, Ponferrada, Plá de Mallorca, etc. - serving a population of over a one and a half million inhabitants.
